It is time to sign your child up for the Lion King! We will have “Casting from Within” which means all students who register for the production will have roles in the play. Auditions will only be for cast members who want to try out for featured solos and will be held on the second week of rehearsals. Rehearsals will be held directly after school in Ms. Mori’s room, 417.
To register your child: Applications will be available at the REACH and Kennedy offices or download it here: Lion King, Jr. application. Fill out the application and turn it in to the Kennedy main office with the registration fee. Your child will be given a script the first day of rehearsal. The calendar and play information is included in the application.
To learn more, attend on one of the parent information meetings on January 10, 8:00 am or 6:00 pm. Please RSVP by emailing Debbie Moore at Debbie@m00re.org and specify which meeting you will attend. If you have any questions, email Debbie@m00re.org or call 415-531-1258.
It’s holiday shopping season and chances are you’re ordering something, if not many things, through Amazon.com. Instead of going straight through Amazon, try AmazonSmile instead. You will still be using your familiar Amazon account (wish lists, shopping cart, etc.) but by using AmazonSmile, Amazon will donate funds to our Kennedy PTO!
To get started, go to smile.amazon.com and simply select the John F Kennedy Middle School Parent Teacher Organization as your charitable organization. Each time you return, Amazon will remember your selection, and every eligible purchase you make at AmazonSmile will result in a donation! It’s that easy!
Try these 2 easy ways to start with a smile.
Thanks and Happy Shopping!
Join us this week for two important meetings:
November 28th at 7 pm – The November PTO meeting will be held at Harry’s Hofbrau. Come join other Kennedy parents and staff members to find out how you can get more involved in your child’s education and the Kennedy community. If you are a parent or guardian of a Kennedy student, then you are part of the Kennedy PTO! Everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend these meetings! Go to the PTO Meeting Details page to view the meeting agenda, upcoming meeting dates, past meeting minutes, and open volunteer opportunities.
November 30th at 7:00 pm – The 8th grade Graduation Dance Committee is meeting in the Kennedy library. We are looking for volunteers to help with the dance – and you do not need to be an 8th grade parent to join! Additional information about the 8th grade graduation activities will also be discussed. If you cannot make it to the meeting, please email email@example.com and we will make sure you are included on the volunteer list.
Be sure to visit a Honey Bear Tree lot to get your holiday tree and wreath this season! Kennedy will receive 15% of the purchase price when you buy your tree or wreath at Honey Bear Trees. Tell your friends & neighbors and raise even more money!
Simply bring this flyer (en Espanol) when you purchase your tree and wreath. (If you happen to forget it, there will be extra flyers on the lot). It’s that simple!
All of their trees are of the finest quality and freshness, grown on the Cocco Christmas Tree Farm in Oregon’s beautiful Cascade foothills. It’s a great opportunity to find the perfect Christmas Tree and support our Kennedy kids and community at the same time!
Join other Kennedy families at our monthly dine-out events to raise funds for our Kennedy kids! Our next two events are:
Wednesday, December 6th: Galeotti’s Pizzeria is located at 3121 Jefferson Avenue. Check out their website for the full menu. Valid for dine-in or take-out orders (you can order online).
Tuesday, December 19th: Habit Burger is located in Sequoia Station at 1111 El Camino Real. Check out their website for the full menu. Valid for dine-in or take-out orders (you can order online).
Come any time between 4 pm and 9 pm and mention you are dining out for Kennedy Middle School when you place your order and a percentage of your meal will go back to Kennedy! It’s that easy!
To enrich the experience of our upcoming Kennedy production, Lion King Jr., we will be holding various workshops to explore related topics. The first workshop was held in October and focused on African Drumming.
In December we have two additional workshops planned:
Tuesday, December 5th from 3:15 to 4:30 pm, Stacey, the director of our Lion King production, will take us through an expository class exploring the Lion King / Hamlet connection in a fun and age-appropriate way for our students.
Wednesday, December 6th from 3:30 to 4:30 pm, Mandy Bell, our Lion King choreographer, will discuss and demonstrate the finer points of theater and African rhythmic dance.
All workshops will be held in Ms. Mori’s dance studio (room 417). Please RSVP to Marie Carter or Debbie Moore.
All students, siblings, and parents are welcomed to participate. The event is free of charge and open to sibling/parent participation however, a suggested donation of $10 per family will be appreciated to cover the cost of the event.
The parent meeting for the play will be on January 10th and details will follow.
Questions about these workshops or the Lion King Jr. production should be directed to Marie Carter at firstname.lastname@example.org or Debbie Moore at email@example.com or text to 415-531-1258.
The Kennedy Book Fair starts on Tuesday! Come to the Kennedy library to check out the great selection of books available – it’s open Tuesday through Friday during lunch breaks (11:20-1:10pm) and after school (2:45-4pm).
There will be fun events, including:
- guess the number of marshmallows in the jar and you can win a s’more party with 5 of your closest Kennedy friends
- when more than half of each grade stops by the fair, staff member Ben Krause will shave his beard (in a public event!)
- pick up your new library card at the book fair if you filled in your form for a new or replacement Redwood City library card
For every book purchased through this fair (including online purchases), Kennedy earns free books for the school!
It’s a win-win, so make sure you come out and support this great fundraising and community building event!
We are still looking for parent volunteers to help our fair run smoothly. Please consider volunteering to help with set up, assisting students in their book selection, restocking books, and other tasks.
