The Art Program at Kennedy has been a popular elective choice for many years. Kennedy is lucky to have a full art studio, including a ceramic kiln on site.
We are equally lucky to have an amazing art teacher, Mrs. Lindsey Segal, who holds Bachelors of Science in Family Studies with Career Technical Education credential in Arts, Media and Design. Art has always been a passion for Mrs. Segal and she believes that it can develop valuable academic, social, and emotional skills. She is excited to work with Kennedy students to practice these skills together while creating beautiful works of art.
In the Art elective, students learn about and explore a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, chalk, oil pastel, printing, and ceramic. Lessons are taught using specific methods, higher order thinking skills, and art critique and design techniques. This course is filled with projects and activities to boost critical thinking, grow creativity, and develop communication skills.
The PTO recognizes the importance of supporting the visual arts program because multiple research studies have shown that students who engage in the study of the arts perform better in math, reading, and writing.
The Kennedy Middle School PTO has supported the Art Program with funding for needed supplies for the past several years. Your contribution to the PTO allows Mrs. Segal to invest in much needed furniture and materials such as canvas paper, scratch foam for printing, blending sticks for drawing, and low fire ceramic glazes.
